"All iz Well" - is all well with us?
Aamir Khan gave his batchmates a "tasalli" that "All iz Well" - which he had heard at night from the shout of a watchman as a small boy - which he believed in and told himself whenever he was scared while facing an unknown situation. In reality, everyone knows that "All is not Well", but the watchman's word were etched in the mind of Aamir Khan and helped him to overcome his fear of unknown. How many of us share his method of overcoming the fear of unknown? Is it not uncommon to see such beliefs all around in ourselves and other people? Do you also have such beliefs? Do you know if someone has such beliefs which helps them to go through tough situations in life? Do you want to share? Have we not gone through our own childhood when someone has ridiculed us for believing in something ? Is it just a belief system or does it really work? What do you think?

  1. Yes, sometimes. But not exactly like Aamir Khan's words. I have sometimes told myself that "there is nothing to it" and it helped me in temporarily shutting my inner voice which is busy giving different meanings to the situation at hand.
Though I don't think having that belief would help me all the time. I feel that I am always driven by the inner voice and resulting behavior is so automatic in nature that most of the time I don't take a step back and say "there is nothing to it" or "all is well". I think I should really enquire into my past(I am in the process of) and identify what are my strong beliefs or notions which is manifesting as an "inner voice dictating meanings we give to situations and actions we take".

  2. hmmm... well from my personal perspective. i jst say.. you have seen worser thins in life (least bothered abt livin long and bein rich and succesful)..how could this situation ever matter.. so i don need it (Max i tell it wil be over soon).

now comin to the concept of it.. my understanding would be that its jst givin selfs false assurances and programmin the mind to think on a different tangent to keep the emergency stimulus signal from reaching the brain.
it would vary from person to person... for my mother her response to accidents or other close shaves on traffic would trip her mind off from normal where in she needs to feel safe from external environments. similarly for me i love rash ridin so for me its playin video game on the street and my mind would trip off only @ the last second i am gonna touch the ground. so self assurances and the need, at wat intensity of the situation varies. Again gettin back 2 the movies scenario his self assurance mechanism was tat since that feeling of assurance was in his watchmen.

Now wat if the same term "all is well" was fed to him as a kid to be the announcement of the devil comin to hurt him and if he was scared with shadows and artificial setups (laboratory method)then we program him to sweat and get phobic about the word.

relating it to cognitive as i partially understand is his (aamir's) association of positive emotions of safety to the pictorial representation of the watchmans image in his mind with the recollection his past to assure his future and send numb signals to the cortex.

abt being ridiculed at childhood ..hmmm.. i wanted to get trained in black magic instead of graduation. so that was the only instant.

but now i have a desire to understand and replace the mass mind control mechanism of GOD and yes i am ridiculed.. cant help it.. the Cognitive spaces were programmed durin the initial stages of "Tabula rasa". but my cognitive space is well fed with reasons and proofs to live in a varied and programmed cognitive world of my own.

so few accept the inputs from others, few do a selective acceptance of information to develop a person cognitive world of assurances.. oh yes .. i got a statement for myself whn in deep trouble.. i tell myself "I liveeee wit this shit" (told by Vin diesel in XXX - movie before bein thrown out of a plane to test his skills of bein reckless). so that gives me an additional energy level from my mitochondrias.

Note: sorry abt the sms lingo or the informal style of communication.. i jst wanted ma thoughts to flow and not coat it to sound impressive. :)

  3. According to me,such beliefs work temporarily.
None of these problems of fear can be resolved through-saying to oneself,"I will not be afraid" or "All is well".
To go into the root of fears,we must understand why the brain, thought, lives in image.Unless we understand this,we will not come face to face with fear.

  4. This is a nice, thought-provoking question..

In my experience, having weathered difficult situations at various points in my life, I have come to believe that one must have faith in oneself and go with the notion of self-assurance that "This too shall pass" - meaning that this is a transitory situation and better times may be there ahead at some point in the future. It's the Yin-Yang concept or that of "Khatta - Meetha".

  6. yes it does help temporarily, one can get quiet a good amount of energy to deal with the situation at hand and once you have faced the situation, you feel good about it.what is important here is "faith" in yourself

  7. Yes i agree that "ALL IS WELL" concept will help us to work with the present. When we work with the present we will be free from the past or the future. Once you are in the present your effeciency will be much higher. When you are working with the higher efficiency you are aware what you are doing. When you know what you are doing you will enjoy the same.

The things we do with enjoyment will elevate to a better level of living.

As for as i am concerned i have come across all the stages of living(both happy and difficult times)and decided that every thing will pass through. Only thing that we must have that much of patience and time to enjoy the same.

With this i strongly believe that "ALL IS WELL" thinking will work and boost our energy to work with that confidence.

    This is my personel thinking.

    Thanks.
